Not My Home
By Suzanne Babin, Tynette Deveaux & Bert Deveaux
In this compelling video, we spend five weeks with the residents and staff of a nursing home, to confront the realities of life inside a long-term care facility. In candid interviews, nurses and aides discuss the demands of caring for residents in the face of tight schedules and minimal staffing. Yet they also reveal a deep and empathetic understanding of patients' perspectives. Residents discuss how the depersonalization of institutional living makes dealing with the basic problems of aging more trying, while their family members reveal the guilt they feel at not being able to provide the care their relative needs. Not My Home paints a vivid picture of the complex needs of this population, and will be a valuable tool for anyone working with older adults.
